Drakensburg Mountains |
I have lived in many places in different countries and painting the landscape and life around me is my way of relating to it. I like to use the medium of Watercolour for it’s directness and accessibility. I started taking painting seriously in Saudi Arabia when sculpture was impossible and the desert was an astonishing revelation, for three years that was all I did. Now that sculpture is again my main occupation painting remains a source of pleasure and exploration particularly when travelling and on holiday.
Painting out of doors can be uncomfortable and irritating but is the only way of getting an inkling of the magnificence of nature by just looking and looking. Returning to my home in the Drakensberg is for me always a process of reconnecting that I find immensely rewarding. That really is what this exhibition is all about, capturing a little of what I saw.
